Today, in Adorable News, I bring you: The Hedgehog Cafe.

Now, we all know, thanks to the internet, that something this odd (though adorable) could only be the brainchild of Japan! Thanks, Japan. We owe you one for this. In fact, we may just refrain from making any remarks about the next truly bizarre thing you come up with. (Maybe.)

Anyways, the Harry Cafe can be found in the Roppongi District of Tokyo.

The name “Harry” stems from a wordplay on the Japanese word for hedgehog.

For $9-11, you can go pet and play with hedgehogs (presumably while drinking tea? It is a cafe after all… Then again, maybe not.)

Mizuki Murata, who works at the cafe, told Reuters, “We wanted to show people the charm of hedgehogs, which give the impression of being hard to handle. We wanted to get rid of that image by letting people touch them.”

She added, “The cutest thing about hedgehogs is getting them to finally open up and show you their face.”

And what cute faces!

P.S. Did you know that a group of hedgehogs is called an array or a prickle? A prickle of hedgehogs!

So what do you think, readers? Would you like to pet a hedgehog, or are they too prickly for you?

This ad made me giggle, and since I ran out of time for a real blog post, I thought I’d share it:

Regardless of what message is being pushed (even if it’s just “buy this!”, I do love me a genuinely entertaining ad.

How about you readers, are there some ads you don’t mind so much, or even enjoy? Are some Telus animals among them? /guilty

A little humor to start your long weekend, compliments of Bored Panda: This Seattle Gas Station Has The Funniest Signs Ever

ban pre-shredded cheese, make america grate again

if attached by a mob of clowns, go for the juggler

all those who believe in psychokinesis, raise my hand

What if there were no hypothetical questions?

The past, the present, and the future walk into a bar. It was tense.

Ever stop to think and forget to start again

I child proofed my house but the kids still get in

When it's raining cats and dogs, don't step in a poodle.

I checked into the hokey pokey clinic and I turned myself around

I'm still hot, it just comes in flashes

The second mouse gets the cheese

I went to the air and space museum but there was nothing there

Hold the door open for a clown. It's a nice jester.

Happy Easter!

How Would You Like To Have A Penguin For A Best Friend?

‘Cause this guy has one. Check it out:

This penguin swims thousands of miles every year to visit the Brazilian man who saved his life. Joao Pereira de Souza found this Magellanic penguin crippled with oil-slicked feathers and close to death near his home. Joao cleaned him up and nursed him back to health. Now the penguin, dubbed JinJing, has adopted him.

“I love the penguin like it’s my own child and I believe the penguin loves me,” de Souza told Globo TV. “No one else is allowed to touch him. He pecks them if they do. He lays on my lap, lets me give him showers, allows me to feed him sardines and to pick him up.”

Although it’s not common, penguins do sometimes end up in Brazil after getting sent a little off course by currents. But I’m pretty sure this is the only one trying to replace dogs as man’s best friend.

Why We Should Build a Deathstar

01 Monday Feb 2016

Death Star

I was having trouble blogging, so my fiance helped me. This is the result. Why should we build a Death Star? Here are his thoughts… (Okay yeah, mixed with mine.)

1. Economic benefits
Building a Death Star would be a massive capital project, causing multi-national economic stimulus. Such a construction project would require huge numbers of people and resources, generating jobs and all those other good things.

2. Unified Purpose
Building a Death Star would require a large scale coalition dedicated towards a common goal, helping to alleviate regional struggles and conflicts. If we really want to finish our Death Star, we can’t be stirring trouble up with our neighbors.

3. Technological Innovation
Building a Death Star would provide high pressure motivation to develop and test real-world, practical technologies. Obviously we don’t yet know how to build things in space or create planet-destroying lasers. We’d have to work on it. And think of all the other cool things we’d learn in the process.

4. Alternative Mining Methods
Building a Death Star would require massive amounts of resources. We would have to start mining meteors and other small scale celestial bodies. Note that developing the technology and doing so would likely reduce mining on earth, preventing further damage to our own planet caused by such activities. And who know what other industries we might relocate beyond our planet’s surface once the technology arises.

5. Life Boat
If things go bad on Planet Earth, we can abandon ship and hop on our Death Star. Theoretically, we’d have also developed space travel a little by then, and we could salvage a large portion of the planet’s population.

6. Asteroid Shield
There’s nothing like a gigantic laser to destroy asteroids before they can hit Earth.

Despicable Me minions laser

7. Deterrent Against Potentially Hostile Alien Life
Who wants to screw with a Death Star?

8. Defense Against Less Intelligent Hostile Alien Life

Shouldn’t have screwed with the Death Star. Aliens go bye-bye.

Now, of course there are also reasons why building a Death Star might be bad (after all, we never abuse any technologies we invent), but that’s a story for another blog.

What do you think, readers? Are these good reasons to build a Death Star? (You know it would be awesome.)
