Exciting news! Here’s the cover for my next book, Claws of the Curse!
Claws of the Curse fantasy novel book cover
Big thank you to the folks at Deranged Doctor Design – you did a fantastic job.

Unfortunately, I don’t have an ETA for the book yet; my life has undergone some pretty big changes in the last year, and there’s a lot of work left to be done. But nothing helps me write a novel more than being inspired by an amazing cover!

If you’re wondering, this next book will be another fantasy novel, but featuring new characters. No more Toman and Esset… For now, at least. I’m not ruling out more Fire and Stone stories in the future, but there are no immediate plans.

If you are curious about the new novel, here’s the description of it that I’m working on:

Vhi never wanted to hurt anyone. Unfortunately, wild magic runs rampant through her body, and she can’t stop it from lashing out and hurting others. She’s sure she’s cursed. For this, her brother hunts her and civilization casts her out.

Rajin is a magical big cat with golden fur and a misanthropic personality. He would rather that humans didn’t exist, although human extinction would sit amicably with him too. Unfortunately, humans are better at hunting him than he, them.

When Vhi and Rajin’s paths collide, the cat is intrigued by Vhi’s pure heart. Unfortunately, the cure to her curse may lie with his hunters. Can Vhi and Rajin escape their respective hunters long enough to lift her curse?

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

The sequel to Calling On Fire is finally here!

Fire Within is now available!

FireTwo brothers with magical abilities must defeat the evil mage who seeks to annihilate them and everyone they’ve ever known.

For now, the novel is only available in ebook form, but I’m working hard to get it printed as well!

You can buy the ebook here:
Amazon.com | Amazon.ca | Smashwords
Multiple formats are available through Smashwords. Other retailers will become available as Smashwords distributes them.

Novel description:

Toman and Esset, the Animator and the Summoner, sacrificed everything in their battle against the evil mage Moloch, and they still failed.

Even so, they’re not willing to give up. Not that they have a choice: Moloch has fixated on inflicting suffering on those they love.

Tseka, a Nadran warrior, has thrown in her lot with theirs. Her race of snake-like people are once again at risk from the evil mage’s cruelty. She’s just not sure she has the strength to be more help than burden. Can Tseka keep up with the brothers, or will she end up a casualty of war?

Erizen, the mercurial mage, has joined their team as well. His knowledge and power are invaluable to Toman and Esset. The only problem: they can’t be sure they can trust him. Will Erizen fight at their side, or will he betray them before the end?

Toman and Esset have new allies and new abilities, but also new scars. Toman’s very soul is crippled. Esset’s new-found power is unpredictable at best and deadly at worst. And Moloch’s power has only grown in turn.

How can they hope to win when the most powerful mage in existence can now call upon the powers of death itself?

I have some insanely exciting news! (As in I nearly went insane making it happen and now I’m so excited I’m like a chipmunk on a sugar rush. XD)

Calling On Fire is now available!

FireTwo brothers with magical abilities seek to stop an evil mage but find the fate of an entire race in their hands.

For now, the novel is only available in ebook form, but I’m working hard to get it printed as well!

You can buy the ebook here:
Amazon.com | Amazon.ca | Smashwords |
Multiple formats are available through Smashwords. Other retailers will become available as Smashwords distributes them.

Novel description:

For centuries, the evil mage Moloch carved out a swathe of destruction, creative in his use of torture, oppression, and outright slaughter. Families, towns, and even whole kingdoms fell before him. But in one village, one boy survived.

Esset’s adopted brother Toman is that boy. Scarred by the tragedy, the two boys swore to stomp out evil when they grew up.

Now adults, they travel the world, seeking out evil wherever it may lurk. Esset can summon fiery creatures from beyond their world, and Toman can make inanimate objects come to life. Together, they look forward to the day that they’re strong enough to take on Moloch himself.

With every battle they grow stronger, but Moloch’s reach is greater than they imagined, and his minions lurk in the most unexpected places. If Toman and Esset can only barely survive the battles against Moloch’s creatures, how can they hope to stand against the mage himself?

Will they be strong enough to defeat him, or will Esset have to choose between his promise to end evil… and his own life?

Well folks, I have some exciting news. Calling On Fire is going to be released soon! We’re in the final stages of editing, and most everything else is prepared as well, so the ebook should be released this month! Now, because publishing is complicated, I’ll be taking a bit longer to get the print version out, but I’m still hoping for next month, before Christmas. As you might imagine, I am insanely excited for this! Weeeeeee!

But really, who can believe it’s November already? I know I can’t. My life has been so consumed by mundane things, it’s difficult to swallow. I’ve been trying to get business cards made (shouldn’t be this complicated…), I’ve been trying to eat better, and I’m already trying to brainstorm Christmas presents. XD Halloween was fun (I hope you all had fun too!). I forgot to take pictures, but I mocked up what I have finished so far on my scale-mail costume into something that I thought was passable. I must admit, however, that wearing it for a few hours definitely pointed out a few design flaws (yeah… need to protect bare skin under the gauntlets… ouch!)

Sorry for the short update! Have a great day!

In other news, please help out this Jedi, down on his luck:

Updates on life and everything

So, time for a non news/science/etc related post! As always, life gets crazy, and mine is no exception. But I’ve got good news!

The edits for my novel have been going VERY well! Huge improvements have been made to the story (in my opinion) and while I loved it before, I love it even more now. Soon I’ll be commissioning a book cover (and of course I’ll post a preview here once I get it!) just as soon as I get the back description polished (which is also coming along).

In other news, I may have discovered why my throat has been so wrecked! It’s been bothering me for a long time, but I hadn’t been having much success figuring it out with my GP. I used to sing all the time (and I was good!) but it has gotten so bad I can barely sing one song without my throat acting up and forcing me to stop (usually with coughing/choking). But I finally got in with a specialist, and we have a working theory! It was a little absurd (almost to the point of humor) when the doctor handed me a pamphlet with my EXACT symptoms outlined in it when my regular doctor and I had been trying so many other things so unsuccessfully for so long. But hope has returned, and I shall sing again!

In other news, last Saturday marked my one year anniversary on WordPress! That doesn’t mark when I started blogging regularly, but still, it’s quite the landmark for me. Blogging doesn’t come naturally to me, and I’m proud that I’ve at least been able to stick with it.

Despite the end of summer too swiftly approaching, there are some things I’m looking forward to… like Doctor Who! Maybe it’s silly to get worked up about a show like that, but I’m really looking forward to the new Doctor and a new season.

To amuse you, here’s Patrick Stewart with a cotton candy mustache:

So this weekend, I attended WANACon! WANA stands for We Are Not Alone, and it’s a community of writers online. WANACon is an online conference (the second so far) that I attended last year, and then again this year. Want to know how awesome it was? Here’s a sample from the little social (PajamaCon) session that kicked it off. According to Gry (another attendee), this is Danish humor:

The next day there were TONS of talks – not as much infodumping as I recall from the first one (which I actually rather liked) but tons of interesting and engaging speakers. Kristen Lamb was one of my favorites – I hugely respect her for her work with writers and her writing itself, and she’s an all-around fun person. She summed up Lord of the Rings as a story where an evil ring needs to be thrown into an evil volcano before darkness covers the world. …It’s strangely accurate, however humorous. If you’re a writer, her blog is a must read. She also has a book out that’s extremely helpful, I recommend it.

The second conference day was awesome too. The idea of writing a unicorn horror story even came up at one point (I’d read it). One presenter talked about websites. It inspired me to tweak mine, but it also admittedly made me feel a little insecure about it and wish I had money to throw at a website designer. Alas, more money is going out than coming in at the moment. *sigh* One day… Anyways, I got a couple of those infodump sessions I was looking for this day too. Hurray!

In other news, I found an editor! I sent her my short story, so hopefully everything goes well! I’m very excited… and nervous. Regardless, this means the short story should be up soon! I will, of course, make an announcement and link to it the moment it’s up. :D

And finally, my scalemail costume has been coming along nicely. I work on this project on and off (more off than on, most times). Here are the update pics:
front back

That is all.

Welcome to my website!

My name is Stephanie, and I am the author of the fantasy books, Stories of Fire and Stone – all  of which, unfortunately, have not been published yet.  But I’m working on it!  I’m currently hunting down an editor, and the posting of a short, free teaser-story and some samples will follow shortly after.  I’m obviously new to this whole self-publishing thing, but I want to do it right, so please bear with me while I pull all this together.  I realize my site is quite skeletal right now, but I’ll be fleshing it out as I go.  I’ll be updating as progress is made.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!  I hope to see you around Twitter or here. :D
